About Us
Our journey began in 2013 with a half-dozen enthusiastic pickleball players who started playing pickleball at Louden Nelson Center. As player numbers increased, it became clear that more courts were needed. A steering committee was formed and a vision born, The Santa Cruz Pickleball Club.
The all-volunteer club has advanced play by getting courts lined in various local venues and by training hundreds of new players. On August 20, 2017, the first permanent public pickleball courts were dedicated at Brommer Street Park. In 2018, over a course of 81 days of play, 3,272 players were tallied.
In June 2019 “The Santa Cruz Pickleball Club, Inc.” was formalized as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization and its Board of Directors opened membership.
The game exploded in popularity when the pandemic hit in 2020. The obscurity of “What’s pickleball?” has now become “I’ve heard of that, how do I learn how to play?”
